Co-curricular

LIBRARY

The Library is an integral part of the school and encompasses the aims and objectives of the school. It particularly provides support for all areas of the curriculum.

The school library, which is fully computerised and available to all pupils, provides an environment which is welcoming and stimulating for individual and group learning. It is primarily a learning and information centre and, as such, is an essential resource for the planning and implementation of the teaching program at the school.

Students attend the library with our teacher librarian every Wednesday during the school term.

SPORT

Sport and fitness is a very important part of life at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. Through sport, our students learn skills to develop teamwork, leadership, cooperative skills and problem solving strategies, which benefit them across all Key Learning Areas. Kindergarten to Year 6 students participate in weekly outdoor sports activities and a weekly PDHPE lesson. Students wear their sports uniform every Wednesday and Friday.
St Joseph’s offers a wide range of sporting and physical activities as part of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education curriculum with a focus on the fundamental movement skills. Sports played at the school include but are not limited to:

  • Rugby League
  • Soccer
  • Netball
  • Tennis
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Touch Football
  • Cross-Country
  • Athletics
  • Swimming.

Three main school carnivals are held each year:

  • Swimming (Term 1)
  • Athletics (Term 2)
  • Cross-Country (Term 1)

Students are assigned as members of one of three house groups:

  • Wentworth
  • Lawson
  • Blaxland

All carnivals are based around the notion of every student participating at their level yet, at the same time, providing a pathway to the Bathurst Diocesan carnivals which provide an opportunity for students to compete at the following carnivals:

  • Diocesan Carnival
  • NSWCPS - Polding Selection Trials
  • NSW PSSA Championships
  • Australian Schools Championships

Success at this level may result in the team progressing to compete with teams from wider areas.

CREATIVE ARTS

Music

Students have Music lessons each week.

Performances

Students from St Joseph’s have opportunities to perform dramatic and musical items throughout the school year. Local Eisteddfods, CWA Speeches, Presentation Night and Joey’s Got Talent are three of our biggest productions and provide students from all grades the opportunity to perform. Students also have the opportunity to view performances from professional actors and musicians.

Art

Students have a number of opportunities to compete in arts competitions throughout the year including Christmas Art Competition and community displays.
